United Way of Palm Beach County
Laurie George is President & CEO of the United Way of Palm Beach County. She has served her organization at the executive level for 18 nonconsecutive years, spending a year at the YMCA of Greater Charlotte and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Over the past six years, Laurie has led United Way of Palm Beach County to a new level of success, increasing revenue by 27% ($16.5 million) and volunteer engagement by 250% (8,133 volunteers). Under her leadership, her United Way was selected as the Health and Human Services Organization of the Year in 2018 by the Chamber of the Palm Beaches. She was recognized by the Executive Women of the Palm Beaches with the prestigious Women in Leadership Award in 2016.

Laurie serves on several committees and boards including Career Source, Economic Council of Palm Beach County, UWW Equity Advisory Council, the Forum Club, Achieve Palm Beach County, Birth to 22: United for Brighter Futures, and Executive Women of the Palm Beaches. She is also a recent graduate of Leadership Florida.

Laurie earned a B.S. in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. in Child Development and Family Relationships from the University of Texas at Austin.

Larry Olmstead [More Info]

United Way of Northern California
Larry joined United Way of Northern California (UWNC) on February 1, 2016 after serving more than five years as vice president of organizational development at United Way Silicon Valley. Under his leadership, the Redding-based agency has undergone a dramatic expansion of its services, including distribution of more than $5.5 million in relief and recovery to some 10,000 survivors of the 2018 Northern California wildfires. Larry has also served the United Way network as a member of national task forces on talent development, a member of United Way Worldwide’s Membership Accountability Committee and co-chair of United Ways of California’s Public Policy Committee.

Previously, Larry spent more than 25 years in the media industry as a journalist and an executive for news and human resources. As managing editor of the Miami Herald, he helped lead the newsroom to two Pulitzer Prizes. At the New York Times, he shared in team coverage that won a Pulitzer, and for his work as a correspondent in Africa for the Detroit Free Press, he was named a Pulitzer finalist.

Larry is past board chair of organizations including the International Women’s Media Foundation, the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors and 2-1-1 California, the state association of 2-1-1 social services helplines. He has been invited to teach in executive development programs at Harvard, Northwestern and other universities to share his expertise in media, leadership, management and diversity and inclusion.

Larry grew up in the Bronx, NY and studied journalism at George Washington University. An avid tennis player and fan, he is a certified instructor and serves in volunteer leadership roles for the United States Tennis Association. He and his wife Michele Chandler have two grown children.
